At Northern Hockey Report, our mission is clear: to grow the game from the grassroots up, and to amplify the voices of those who live and breathe hockey every single day in the North.
We believe that hockey is not just played on the ice — it’s built in locker rooms, behind the benches, and on long drives home from away games. It’s shaped by small clubs with big hearts, volunteer coaches, and young players with ambition and grit. It’s written in the early-morning practices, in the scuffed helmets and hand-me-down gear, in the stories told between teammates over shared victories and tough losses.
Our passion is rooted in community. Northern towns and cities may not always be in the national spotlight, but their contribution to UK hockey is undeniable. Here, hockey is played in humble arenas filled with loyal fans. It’s kept alive by families who sacrifice weekends and evenings, by coaches who juggle full-time jobs with hours on the ice, and by players who push themselves to improve, one shift at a time.
This platform was created to reflect that spirit. To provide visibility to those often overlooked. To remind every young player on a frosty rink in Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, or Carlisle that their dedication matters — that their voice matters.
We strive to:
- Highlight local games, tournaments, and unsung heroes
From junior league finals to community-organised scrimmages, every match counts. We spotlight players who give it their all, even when the stands aren’t full or the cameras aren’t rolling. Because passion doesn’t need an audience to be real. - Promote off-ice development, training, and recovery tips for all levels
Hockey doesn’t stop when the final buzzer sounds. We explore nutrition, conditioning, mental preparation, and injury prevention to help athletes build longevity and strength in their careers, whatever their age or level. - Celebrate the unique culture of Northern UK hockey
The chants in the stands, the pub talk after the game, the lifelong rivalries and friendships — these are the traditions we treasure. Our goal is to document and honour what makes Northern hockey communities vibrant and unbreakable. - Encourage collaboration between clubs and communities
We believe that growth comes through unity. Whether it’s sharing ice time, training resources, or simply encouraging dialogue between coaches, we want to foster a culture of cooperation rather than competition alone.
We don’t just report. We connect. We celebrate. And we push for more people to fall in love with this game the way we have. Northern Hockey Report is a digital extension of the locker room, the bleachers, and the family car. It’s a place for shared experiences, honest reflection, and grassroots pride.
As hockey continues to grow across the UK, our mission expands too. We aim to serve not just players, but also the support networks behind them: parents, officials, rink managers, volunteers, physiotherapists, and fans. Every role matters. Every story adds value to the sport’s legacy.
We also recognize that the future of hockey lies in accessibility and inclusion. That means supporting programs that welcome girls into the rink, that provide affordable gear to families in need, that champion players from diverse backgrounds. Progress in the sport must be intentional. We are committed to being part of that progress.
And finally, we strive to stay curious. To ask the questions others won’t. To dig into what’s working and what needs to change. To shine a light not just on success, but on effort, resilience, and evolution.
If you’re part of the hockey world and want to share your story, your insight, or your voice — reach out. Whether it’s a write-up from a junior tournament or a reflection on your years behind the bench, we welcome your contribution. Together, let’s make sure the North gets the recognition it deserves on and off the ice.
Thank you for being part of this journey. The puck is yours.
